thief, Jane Ayres

you took my breath away

a dandelion tangle of

flowery shyness

snipping the tips

curving the edges of

unrequited love

now when we meet

peppered politeness to

spare feelings

you stole my sutured heart

in flickering rosehip dreams

I take yours

Based in the UK, neurodivergent writer Jane Ayres re-discovered poetry studying for a part-time Creative Writing MA at the University of Kent, which she completed in 2019 aged 57. She likes chocolate porridge and vinegar and always wanted to be Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
